Leandro Trossard has no regrets about his path to the Belgium national team.

Leandro Trossard has had to be patient to play for his country, but the route he’s taken is not one he would change.

The 25-year-old spoke about the positive conversations he’s had with Belgium manager Roberto Martinez before making his debut last month.

He said, “It’s been the path I went on and I don’t regret it.

“I made my debut last month for my country but it should have been last year. Twice I picked up an injury when I was with the squad so I was a bit unlucky.

“He [Roberto Martinez] said he had a lot of confidence in me and that I was doing great in the Premier League, especially as it was my first year. He told me to keep enjoying my football.

“It’s up to me to continue my form and make it as difficult as possible for him not to give me minutes on the pitch.

“At the moment, I feel great. I just want to improve, help the team and try to play as much as I can for my country.”

Belgium face England at Wembley Stadium tomorrow in the Nations League.

Trossard will be one of a number of faces in Martinez’s side who are playing in the Premier League, with others operating in Europe’s top leagues.

“You can see how from the number of Belgian players in the Premier League or the biggest leagues in the world at the moment that we have a good squad.

“The group has always been very welcoming and that helps a lot. They treat you like you are one of them and it’s a really nice environment to be in.”

Leandro Trossard celebrates with his teammates after scoring against Chelsea.

Trossard has already found the net against Chelsea and has played every minute of Premier League football this season.

“It has been a really good couple of years for me. Last season I adapted to the Premier League but now I feel really good.

“I tried to learn from those games and the pressure that comes with it and hopefully I can play more minutes with the Belgium squad and with Brighton.”
