Powell has said the opening game against Birmingham is a good one to start with.

Albion will be looking to make history on Sunday by reaching the semi-finals of the Vitality Women's FA Cup for the first time.

Hope Powell's team take on Birmingham City behind closed doors at the People's Pension Stadium, kick off 2pm.

Up for the Cup...

Victories over Aston Villa and Crystal Palace at the start of the year got Albion into the last eight before the competition was mothballed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the WSL season was cancelled, the FA wanted to complete their flagship knockout tournament and seven months after beating Palace 3-0, Albion take on WSL rivals Birmingham City. The semi-final against either Everton or Chelsea is scheduled for Wednesday with the final at Wembley on 1st November.

Familiar foes...

Albion already have a victory against the Blues to their name this season. On the opening day of the WSL campaign second-half goals from Megan Connolly and Inessa Kaagman secured a 2-0 home win.

Form Guide...

Powell's team followed up that result with an excellent 0-0 draw at Manchester City. Birmingham are still looking for their first league points, having lost 5-2 to Manchester United a fortnight ago.

View from the dugout...

Hope Powell: "We're really looking forward to the opportunity of making history but we are not complacent, even though we have already beaten Birmingham this season. They have added some quality to their squad since that game and I'm sure they will organised again and tough to break down. But we have some new players ourselves of course, and they are getting better with each game and training session. It's just a shame the fans won't be there to support us but we know they will be watching and cheering us on."

One to watch...

Among a clutch of recent signings at Birmingham is defender Rachel Corsie, the Scotland captain who has joined the club until January from NWSL team Utah Royals. The 31-year-old is a natural leader and organiser and believes Birmingham share her ambitions for success. She said, “I know what a club like Birmingham is like. They want to get back to competing again and that’s something I want to be a part of.”
