Graham Potter has described the Government’s decision to postpone the return of supporters to grounds as a blow.

Clubs were due to be able to admit fans from October 1st, but rising Covid-19 cases in the country have put those plans on indefinite hold.

Albion staged the first match in the UK with supporters earlier this month when 2500 fans were admitted for a pre-season friendly against Chelsea.

Potter said, “It’s a blow at football level because we want to play in front of people, we want to interact with supporters, and we want to get our lives back to normal.

“That’s the sad thing. If you zoom out of football, what is happening at the moment is a reflection of how life and society is and the challenges that we face.

“I noticed it on Sunday when we were driving through Newcastle and you could tell things have changed to how we normally live our lives and that’s what is so sad.

“We have to work with the government and the authorities to make sure that when supporters are back, they are back safely, we hope that is sooner rather than later.

Potter's Preston press conference

“We are worried for local businesses and the economy. Things have changed significantly in our world because of the virus in the last few months.

“There’s going to be big challenges ahead for football and for the economy. The quicker we can get on top of it and the quicker we can find solutions, the better.”
