Alireza Jahanbakhsh believes Albion put in a ‘brilliant’ performance against Portsmouth to reach the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The Iran international scored a sublime goal when he smashed the ball into the top left-hand corner early in the second half in Albion’s 4-0 win.
Jahanbakhsh said, “When I got the ball I tried to turn and join the attack. I played the ball to Viktor and I knew that there was a lot of space on the left for me to take the shot, which I did and it went in the right direction into the top corner.”
The 27-year-old was full of praise for the younger players in the group who featured on Thursday.
“It was a brilliant game and the lads did a great job. We knew we had to control the game and create chances,” he added. “In the first half we were the better side and could have scored more.
“Some of the young lads got the chance to play and I enjoyed my goal and assist.”
The former AZ Alkmaar forward wants to be a regular in Graham Potter’s side this season and enjoy a successful campaign.
“I always try to improve myself day-in, day-out. My first season was all about learning and getting used to the competition, adapting to the environment,” he said.
“Last season I learned a lot and I want to prove to myself that I can do more. I work my socks off to get my chance in the team and when that has happened I have tried my best. I have a lot to give.”
