Bernardo looks on as his second-half header beats Portsmouth keeper Craig MacGillivray.

Bernardo was happy to get his first goal for Albion but admitted he might have finished Thursday's Carabao Cup tie with two.

The Brazilian defender headed home in the second half and was one of four different goalscorers in the 4-0 win over Portsmouth at the Amex.

But he also had a great chance early on, only to fire over from close range.

He said, "Every player can miss a goal, even the best strikers in the world and it happened to me.

"But I won't be focusing on it too much because there was so many good things about the performance.

Bernardo surveys his options against Portsmouth.

"I knew that I had missed a clear chance but I kept going forward and I was pleased with the header in the second half."

Alexis Mac Allister, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Viktor Gyokeres were also on target to seal a third-round trip to Preston North End next Wednesday.

Bernardo added: "It was a very good performance from the team.

"We have a lot of strong players in our squad and I think we showed that in this match."
