Albion completed their pre-season games unbeaten after a 0-0 draw with West Brom at the Amex.

The newly promoted visitors made it hard for Graham Potter’s men to create clear-cut chances but nine of Albion’s starting team got 90 minutes under their belt as preparations for the Premier League opener against Chelsea on 14th September continued.

Despite the absence of several players on international duty it was still a strong starting XI with three central defenders employed by Graham Potter.

They were soon into their stride, moving the ball effectively allied to good movement on and off the ball, although despite some threatening positions they failed to seriously test West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone in the first half.

Indeed, it was the visitors who had the first shot on target when the ball broke to Brazilian Matheus Pereira 25 yards out who forced a comfortable save Mat Ryan from a low right-foot drive.

West Brom went much closer two minutes before the break when some neat build-up play ended with Pereira striking the right-hand post from an angled shot after a one-two with Kyle Edwards.

Charlie Austin fired over just after the break before Yves Bissouma worked some space for an effort at goal in the 55th minute which Johnstone got behind.

Pascal Gross replaced Adam Lallana and Bernardo came on for Alzate on the hour but it proved difficult for Albion to break down a well-organised visiting defence, who gave the hosts very little room to create clear openings.

Solly March cut inside with ten minutes to go but his shot went a yard wide of the right-hand upright but Albion couldn’t find a way through.

Albion: Ryan; Webster, Dunk, White; Alzate (Bernardo 60), Stephens, March; Bissouma, Lallana (Gross 60); Mac Allister; Maupay. Unused subs: Steele, Sanchez, Burn, Roberts.
