Williams believes that Le Tissier can go far in the game.

Victoria Williams is happy to keep passing on her experience to some of the youngsters in the Albion squad.

But the defender admits there is little she can teach defensive partner Maya Le Tissier.

Le Tissier, 18, established herself in the team last season with some composed and mature displays and won England under-19 honours. Williams is certainly a fan.

She said, “I always like to see which players are coming through that can make an impact, but with Maya I don’t feel like I am playing alongside a kid.

Le Tissier has represented England at under-19 level.

“She’s kind of advanced beyond her years in terms of positional awareness and the professional attitude that she has. I think Brighton are very fortunate to have her. I personally believe that she has a very promising career ahead of her both at club and international level.

“In terms of my own role I feel like I have a duty to pass on any experience and anything I think can help the younger players is a role that I take with both hands. By the time I retire if I have helped the players coming through then that’s a job done.”

Albion kick off their third season in the WSL on Sunday against Birmingham City and Williams believes they need to be more ruthless if they are to improve on successive ninth-place finishes.

“It’s having the experience of knowing how to finish games off,” she added. “Last season Reading came to us and we were 2-1 up in the 91st minute and we ended up drawing 2-2, and the same happened against Chelsea.

“It’s those occasions where we need to use our experience and see games out. If you look at what those four points could have done for us it would have already made a difference.”
