Adam Webster says the Seagulls proved a lot of people wrong during the latter part of last season in setting a new Premier League points total of 41 after taking 12 points from their final nine games.

He said, “We finished with a record points total for this club in the Premier League.

“Not many people would have tipped us to do that after the restart. We showed great character and belief in what we were doing and never let our heads drop.

“It was a tough run-in, but we managed to pick up a lot of points and we want to take that momentum into the new campaign and really kick on.”

Albion ended their 2019/20 season with an impressive 2-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor thanks to goals from Yves Bissouma and Aaron Connolly.

Webster says the tight turnaround between seasons can work in Albion’s favour and praised the two new arrivals Adam Lallana and Joel Veltman.

“The short break might work in our favour in that respect because we’re straight back into the thick of things and can continue that momentum.

“We finished on a high and have a couple of new additions to the squad which will make the group even more competitive.

“Both Adam [Lallana] and Joel [Veltman] have settled in well. It’s a great group of lads here and so that process has gone well and I’m sure they’ll enjoy it here.”

Webster also revealed that he was to become a father in the autumn, and that his recent break away from the field was more than welcome.

“It’s nice to be back with the rest of the group – the break was probably the shortest any of us have ever had but it has its benefits.

“When you have seven or eight weeks off you can sometimes find that you lose your fitness slightly, but everyone’s really fit and we’re straight back into it.

“I had some time off with my partner and that was needed. It turned into a long season with training in lockdown and then playing.

“It was my last holiday before becoming a father too, so I’ll probably find I needed that break!

“The baby will be here in November and I’m told that’s when the real hard work starts, but I can’t wait.”
