Adam Webster has loved life in the Premier League, and the Albion defender is looking forward to getting even better next season.
But with another season in the top-tier confirmed after the 0-0 draw against Newcastle United on Monday, Webster is pleased with how well Albion have got on since the restart.
He said, “We are proud of what we have achieved. We hadn’t had the best run before lockdown, which came at a good time for us. It gave everyone a bit of time to reflect on the season and what we wanted to achieve.
“We’ve had a tough run-in. In the last eight games we’ve played five of the top six, but we’ve taken points in every game apart from against Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.
“But we gave Liverpool a really good game and I think on another night we might have got a better result.
“The gaffer told us that can only affect the next thing that happens. For me that was quite a big thing. You can get carried away and your thought processes can go elsewhere. Those words definitely helped us.”
Webster says the squad was boosted by how the club handled the Covid-19 pandemic and their support for a return to play.
“That was brilliant,” Webster added. “As players it is great to be involved at a club that is trying to do the right things off the pitch and most definitely Brighton did.
“We all wanted to play at our own stadium and it was a big stance from the club to come out so publicly and say it. But it has definitely helped us since the restart, even without fans in the ground.”
The former Bristol City defender has three goals in 30 appearances this season ahead of our trip to Burnley on Sunday and has been in impressive defensive form since the restart, although he admits it hasn’t always gone to plan.
“I have loved my first season in the Premier League. It’s not been easy at times, there have been a lot of ups and downs. I thought I started really well but then I had a bit of loss of form and made some mistakes which is always going to happen.

“It’s a bit like when I first made the step from Portsmouth to Ipswich, from League Two to the Championship, I started really well, but then I made some mistakes. But you have to believe in yourself and that you belong at this level.
“I’m happy to have played as many games as I have in my first season, but next year I will be looking to kick on and have an even more successful campaign.”
