Guardiola: Potter can build a great club at Brighton

Manchester City head coach sure Albion will thrive under Graham Potter.

Pep Guardiola is convinced Albion are on the right track under Graham Potter after seeing his Manchester City side deliver a masterclass at the Amex.

City had 26 shots and won 5-0 in Saturday's Premier League game but Guardiola believes that, given time, Potter can bring long-term success to the Amex and rates him as one of the best English coaches in the country.

He said, “It is the first season in the Premier League for Graham [Potter] and managers need time.

“He is one of the best English managers in the country. He is and will be a successful manager because I have noticed how he is as a human being and I have a lot of respect for managers who try and play the right way and not just wait for one moment to win the game.

“Sometimes you need more time because the way he wants to play is attractive and seductive but it’s not easy. I’m pretty sure next season that if the club follow him he is going to build a good club.”

Guardiola came up against Potter for the first time last season when his side trailed 2-0 to his Swansea team before hitting back to win an FA Cup tie 3-2.

“I’m speaking like this because he made me suffer when he was at Swansea [last season] and we were nearly put out of the FA Cup!" he added.

“I also saw the way his [Ostersunds] team played when they put Arsenal out of the Europa League. I admire him. He may not have the best players like lucky managers like me who have exceptional players but he works very hard.

“I wish him all the best. I am pretty sure next season Brighton will be in the Premier League and next season will be better for him and Brighton.”
