Albion boss Graham Potter said his side ‘couldn’t find the answer’ to stopping Manchester City in a disappointing 5-0 defeat at the Amex on Saturday evening.
Goals from Raheem Sterling (3) Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva overwhelmed Albion.
Potter said, “We were well beaten by the better team. First half we were in it a little bit. We had a couple of opportunities, but not that much. Manchester City were very good and they’ve got players that can pretty much hurt you anywhere.
“But we’re disappointed with how the second half went, we petered out a bit. We’ve had Liverpool and Manchester City in the space of four days. It is a big ask, but we have to dust ourselves down and focus on the next three matches.”
“The second goal just before half-time was the one we were disappointed with, the manner of it, the timing of it, it’s disappointing because if you go in at 1-0 down at the break you’re in the game. I think we had moments, but that was a killer one.
“We tried to get some sort of foothold but congratulations to them, they were very good and obviously deserved to win by the margin they did.
“We couldn’t find the answer to handling them tonight. They beat Liverpool at the Etihad 4-0 so better teams than us will find it difficult, they are one of the best sides in Europe, there’s no disgrace from our perspective.
“We can look at ourselves and think ‘how can we improve’, but at the same time we want to try and put it to bed as quickly as we can and focus on getting as many points from the next three matches.
“I think everyone can look and learn from Manchester City. You also have to understand the levels - we’re someway off the standard that Manchester City have. Our job is to improve our team and our players as best we can and take some steps. We’ve done some things quite well, but we’ve quite clearly got a lot more to do as well.”
