Players have teamed up to make a substantial six-figure donation to kick off a new charity fund for local charities.

A charity which provides vital support to young people who are homeless is the latest local good cause to receive a donation from the Albion As One fund.

The Clock Tower Sanctuary is based in Brighton and Hove and is the city’s only drop-in day centre for homeless 16-25-year-olds. It is a place where young people who have nowhere to call home can feel safe, and the charity provides them with practical and emotional support to help them move from a period of crisis to long-term stability.

Last year alone the charity had almost 4,000 visits from young people with nowhere to call home.

During lockdown the charity has continued to provide vital support to young adults who have been housed in emergency accommodation and other insecure places – including many who have been struggling with mental health issues and other challenges resulting from the Covid-19 crisis.

It is now helping young people who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and who can no longer afford to pay their rent and others have been asked to leave their family homes.

The donation from the Albion As One fund, which was launched by the club’s Premier League players, will help the charity’s crisis support project, which provides a lifeline to young homeless people.

For example, the charity’s frontline team is currently offering help and advice on the phone and by email, and delivering food parcels and other essentials like toiletries, clothes and cooking equipment.

Frances Duncan, chief executive officer at The Clock Tower Sanctuary, said, “We are delighted to receive such a generous donation from the Albion As One fund.

“As a small charity, we rely on the support of our community to keep our services running and the lockdown has unfortunately meant that many of our fundraising events have been cancelled.

“We are working with many 16-25-year olds in the city who are living in emergency accommodation, who have no family support and nowhere else to turn to for help during this crisis.

“A huge thank you to all the Albion players and staff who have made this possible.”
