Adam Webster says that being reunited with his Seagulls teammates last week on the training ground provided a much-needed return to some form of normality.

The players are now back in contact training ahead of the restart of the 2019/20 Premier League season, and the defender revealed that there was no love lost when the side got to see one another again in person for the first time in over two months.

He said, “Most of the lads were taking notice of how much everyone’s hair has grown and there were a few jokes flying around!

“I shaved mine and it’s not looking great! I did it three weeks into lockdown – I’d already been without a haircut for a few months, so it wasn’t looking the best!

“I took the plunge and shaved it off, maybe that was a bit of a mistake! But everyone was having a good joke with one another and it was all the usual sort of interaction between us.

“We hadn’t had that for a while so it was nice – it’ll be a while until any of us can get a haircut, so it’ll only get worse!”

Adam Webster plays a pass during the side's return to training.

Graham Potter’s side have just over a fortnight before they play Arsenal at the Amex Stadium, and Webster revealed what life has been like back in training for the first time since the middle of March.

“We had a limited time for contact in the first week but that’s now changed,” he said.

“Small group training felt different, there was only so much we could do – but the coaches put on some really enjoyable sessions for us all so it felt good.

“We still got a good amount of fitness in and then in the last week it’s been pretty much back to normal.

“The only difference is that when there’s a pause in the session or the manager speaks you have to keep your distance and spread out. Going forward we’ll keep adapting to it.”

When the top-flight does resume, it will be without the fans and Webster recognises that the matches will have a different feel as a result.

“It’ll be strange – I’ve watched some of the German games on TV and of course it doesn’t feel the same,” he added.

“As players we know what’s at stake when we come back so we have to make sure we focus on what we can control and adapt to it.”
