Leandro Trossard has spoken of how much emphasis he has placed on keeping in good shape over the last two months.

Albion are now back in full training ahead of the Premier League’s restart, and the Belgian midfielder spoke about the work he’s been doing away from the pitch in recent times to make sure he hits the ground running again when fixtures resume.

He said, “I’d been following the running programme from the club and done the zoom sessions for mobility and strength – it was important for me to keep fit.

“I knew I had to maintain a good level – I knew if I didn’t then I could get injured quickly.

“I had that in my mind, so I made sure I did all of the work to make sure I was in good shape for the restart.

“We’ll have nine games left to play in a really short space of time. As the table stands it’s tight and rest and recovery will be the second most important thing to what happens out on the pitch.”

Trossard revealed he has even picked up a new skill when he spent time back in Belgium during the lockdown.

“It was nice to be there for a while. We couldn’t see our family, but it was good to get some time back in my own country,” added Trossard.

“I learnt a new skill too. I bought some LEGO to pass the time and built the Taj Mahal! It was a nice thing to do.

“I have a young son and during the season you don’t get to spend too much time at home, so it was lovely to be able to play with him and get closer to him.”

Graham Potter’s side last took to the field on the 7th March in a 0-0 draw away to Wolves at Molineux, and Trossard spoke about his delight at being back out on the training field.

“It was a long time without football, and it’s been strange – even in the weeks and months that follow it won’t be the same as before,” he added.

“But I’m happy we’re back in group training. It’s been great to see my teammates and to be able to kick a ball again.

“The first stages were small groups at a distance with running, it wasn’t the best but I’m happy it’s back to normal now.”
