A young Ankergren was considering joining the police before Danish top-flight side Brondby came calling and launched his football career.

He said, “I did two years at college, because at the time I wanted to go into the police if I hadn’t made it as a footballer.

“They [the police] would like to see people having this college qualification if you wanted to go down that route, and that’s what I wanted to do.

“Obviously I wanted to play football, but I was quite immature, so it was good for me to do another two years at school.

“Then in 2000 Brondby bought me from Koge, but I would have definitely gone into the police had I not made it into football.

“I think I would have been good at it!”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Ankergren discusses the highs and lows of his time at Leeds United, his move to Albion and his memories of the 2010/11 promotion campaign.
