We asked you for your favourite Albion memories. Today it's the turn of Dave Earl.

Albion fan Dave Earl.

What was your first game and what do you remember about it?

My uncle took me to my first game at the Goldstone. It was Saturday 19th March 1977, I was 14 and we played Bury in a Division Three match. The score was 1-1 and the programme, which I still have, cost 10p! We stood behind the goal in the South Stand and I remember being so excited. My uncle passed away recently. He was featured as a tribute in the programme for the Burnley match earlier this season and, when I gave a talk at the crematorium, I had the programme with me.

Who is your favourite player?

I don't think I had a favourite player until the early 80s when we signed Gordon Smith. He became my first Albion favourite. I remember thinking ‘Wow! He was a superstar at Glasgow Rangers, scored loads of goals and he's now with us!’ I was so happy when he put us 1-0 up in the FA Cup final in 1983. And I don't blame him for not winning it for us at the end.

Your favourite Albion game?

My favourite game has to be the 1983 FA Cup final. It surely has to be our joint biggest game as a club, along with Hereford when we stayed in the League. What a proud day, what an atmosphere, all the blue and white, our team on TV all over the world, (a rare thing for us then) and a fantastic performance by the boys.

What is your favourite season as a fan?

Perhaps a bit predictable, but the 1982/83 season. The cup run, the excitement of it all, building up round by round and each game itself. There was genuine belief we could get to Wembley.

What is your favourite home and away shirt?

My favourite home shirt was the recent wide blue and white stripes. I thought it made a change from shirts with thinner stripes. My favourite away was the green and black stripes, how long ago was that? That was until the plain green shirt came along. Green is my favourite colour!

Your all-time Albion XI?

Matt Ryan; Gary Stevens, Lewis Dunk, Mark Lawrenson, Wayne Bridge; Jimmy Case, Brian Horton, Dale Stephens, Peter O'Sullivan; Bobby Zamora, Peter Ward.
