Ezequiel Schelotto is happy to put football on hold for a few weeks, insisting that supporting people who are experiencing a difficult time because of the coronavirus should take priority.

Albion were not due to not play this Saturday because of Leicester City’s involvement in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

But there is now a mandatory shutdown until 4th April of elite football, and this may be extended with UEFA and the Premier League discussing the latest developments on Tuesday and Thursday respectively this week.

He said, “We are not robots so nothing will change if a game is not played for a few weeks.

“We have to be in this together and follow the rules to protect ourselves from the disease.

“Here in England the situation is not the same as it is in Italy, which lives in general quarantine. We have to try to stay calm and support those who are having a difficult time.”

Schelotto used the example of River Plate, from his native Argentina, who postponed their SuperLiga match on Saturday, which was due to be played behind closed doors, on the recommendation of the World Health Organisation after the league ordered it to be played behind closed doors.

“What River Plate did is good, they thought more about people’s health than a game,” added the 30-year-old.
