The Iranian midfielder’s sensational strike in the 1-1 draw on New Year’s Day was recognised by readers of Match of the Day magazine, who awarded it their January Goal of the Month.

Before the winter break, Alireza was presented with the Premier League Goal of the Month trophy and the Mid Sussex Porsche Performance of the Month and American Express Goal of the Month accolades.

He said, “I haven’t got so many awards for one thing in my career before! Having all the positive reaction to the goal was an honour in itself but these awards are a nice bonus.

“I appreciate the people who voted for me. It’s a great that football fans from all around the world as well as Brighton fans enjoyed the goal. Hopefully it’s not the last and there are more to come.

“I’ll have to make some more space for this one. I have some of my trophies and awards at home, some in Holland and some here in Brighton. They are nice but I’m a team player and I’d rather have collective awards.”
