The Seagulls have 12 games left and are next in action away to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on 22nd February.

Alzate came off the bench last Saturday when Albion came from behind to draw 1-1 with Watford and Potter was delighted with the 21-year-old’s contribution.

He said, “He did really well when he came on. He took the ball in some challenging situations and he has the ability to take an extra touch.

“He draws the opponent out and then he can play through and that is a really good quality to have. He’s been struggling with a little bit of a groin problem, so we have been trying to manage his game time to a certain extent, but he’s a good young player and I’m delighted with him.

“He is also a great character; has a good personality and I enjoy working with him.”

Alzate made his Premier League debut in September against Newcastle United and has since featured prominently for both club and country after making his international bow for Colombia earlier in the season.

“He’s one of a number of players who’ll be key for us between now and the end of the season,” added Potter.

“We’ve got 12 games left and I don’t think we are far away from registering a few more wins and getting the results we need.

“We have to keep working and pushing. I see a lot I am optimistic about, but at the same time you know this league is relentless in terms of the quality of the opposition you come up against, and so you have to keep fighting.”
