  • Bojan Radulovic cancels out Julian Justvan's opener.
  • Anton Stach and Mamoudou Karamoko add second and third goals for the visitors.
  • Teddy Jenks scores a late second for Rusk's men.
  • Albion are next in action against Spurs at the start of next week.

Bojan Radulovic equalised in the first half but the Germans, who had already won the group, were back in front at the break.

Early in the second half Simon Rusk’s side had some excellent chances to draw level but they conceded a third from the penalty spot with 20 minutes to go. Teddy Jenks got a deserved second in the last minute of normal time, but Wolfsburg held on to progress as group winners with a 100% record.

Although Albion could not progress from the group stage, head coach Rusk named a strong side with Archie Davies and Ryan Longman returning after injury on the substitutes’ bench.

Both sides played at a good tempo in the first half and were soon creating chances. In the 10th minute Yannik Moker’s shot was blocked before Albion responded eight minutes later. Romaric Yapi made a typically strong run down the right and found Peter Gwargis with a cut-back, but the striker put his shot too close to keeper Niklas Klinger who made the save.

A minute later Wolfsburg broke and Omar Marmoush was played in on Hugo Keto’s goal, but steered his effort wide. The German outfit were starting to get on top though, and they took the lead in the 25th minute when Julian Justvan led a break after Albion lost the ball in midfield and beat Keto to make it 1-0.

Keto denied Mamoudou Karamoko and Marmoush as the visitors pressed for a second, but Albion responded and drew level in the 32nd minute. Yapi again produced a driving run down the right and after easing past a defender he teed up Radulovic for a simple close-range finish.

Bojan Radulovic is congratulated on his first half effort.

But Wolfsburg were back in front in the 39th minute when Keto was wrong-footed by Anton Stach’s shot, which took a big deflection to beat the Albion keeper. The Albion stopper then made another save just before the break to frustrate Marmoush once more.

Albion responded strongly and created three good chances to equalise in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Radulovic was denied by the post after a scramble in the box, Klinger held on to a stinging angled drive from Yapi, and Gwargis fired wide of the left-hand post.

Klinger made another good stop after Jordan Davies cut in from the right to unleash a shot, but when it looked as if Albion would find an equaliser they conceded a third goal in the 70th minute when Karamoko scored from the penalty spot after he had been tripped by Gwargis.

Albion pulled a second goal back in the 89th minute when a good cross-field move ended with Teddy Jenks beating Klinger with a low drive into the corner. It wasn’t enough to prevent Wolfsburg from recording a third group win out of three, while Albion return to league action against Tottenham Hotspur next Monday.
