Leandro Trossard had fired the home side ahead with a fine finish seven minutes before the interval - his third goal of the season - but the visitors levelled 15 minutes from time through Jack Grealish.
Potter said, “It was an important game and it’s obviously disappointing not to win, but I thought we were really good in the first half and with a bit of luck could have probably been further ahead.
“You’d expect a response from the opposition and they did come back at us, but we also responded well to their goal and had chances towards the end of the game.
“Neal [Maupay] has that effort well saved and we had a little opening at the very end too, but it just wasn’t to be.”

Potter admitted Grealish’s third goal of the season against Albion was a top-class strike.
“He’s got great quality and it was a fantastic finish from a really good player,” Potter continued.
“That’s the Premier League for you, you can do really well in the game, but the opponent is always capable of producing moments of quality that can hurt you.
“We want to win every game, but if you can’t get a victory then you’ll always take a point, but we have to move forward now.”
The Seagulls now head along the south coast to take on AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday evening in their next Premier League encounter.
“It’s a big game but that’s the nature of this league, they are all big games,” he added. “As long as we accept that and do our best then we’ll keep moving forward and trying to improve.”
