Goals from Abbie McManus and Jane Ross ultimately proved to be the difference on the night in a 2-1 defeat for Hope Powell’s side, and the shot-stopper reflected on an eventful first appearance between the sticks.

She said, “I felt that we produced a good performance, and I had never previously faced a team as good as that.

“I felt it was a very good football match and it was probably good for those watching from the stands too. We were disappointed with the result, and I thought we deserved a draw and maybe take it to extra time and a penalty shoot-out.

“We played very well, but Man United are a good football team. It’s disappointing, but we need to take this performance into our next game in the league.”

Albion were beaten 4-0 in their last match against Manchester United in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League two months ago, and Fiskerstand reflected on what was a much better performance compared to that game.

“It’s a big improvement. I haven’t watched that game, but I heard about it. Today was a very different story, and we showed that we were as good as United in periods of the game. It’s a big improvement, but we’ve got to shake that off and get points in the league.

“For a while we had momentum in the game, and then maybe we got a bit tired, and that’s when we got the goal. But we worked hard, got a goal back and it could’ve gone either way.”

Wednesday night’s game was Fiskerstand’s first appearance since November, and says her main focus is now on returning to full fitness.

“I haven’t played any games since the Norwegian Cup Final in November, so it’s been a while for me, and I need to take some time to get into shape.

“I’m not in my best shape now, but I will be soon and I need to be realistic with myself.”
