The head coach spoke about the dynamics involved during a month when there is constant media speculation about players coming in or leaving the club.

He said, “I’ll get asked about all sorts of names, some I’ll have heard of and some I won’t. At this time of year people link names with various clubs for a host of reasons.

“That’s the noise of the window and it isn’t fair to speculate or comment on any player that isn’t ours. Our job is to try to improve the quality of the players we have and that’s what we’re focusing on. I don’t feel that the players have reached their maximum and that’s exciting.

“Everyone thinks that you should do something in the window because the feeling is that you always have to find an external solution. But when I was at Swansea we lost numbers and we improved, at Ostersunds we advanced to the last 32 in Europe without signing anyone.

"I’m happy with everyone in the group. If nothing happens and we work with what we have then I’m totally fine with that.

“Of course, you always have to look to see if there are any options, but that won’t turn my focus away from working with the group I have.

“There’s no point in signing a player for the sake of it, but if there’s someone who we feel can make a difference then that makes sense.”
