The head coach, who signed a new six-year contract with the club last month, emphasised the impact Bloom has had on the Seagulls since Potter's appointment in May.

He said, “I like him a lot as a person and as a chairman. I respect his values and the way he’s set up this football club.

“He’s a very astute and clever guy and once you spend time with him you understand that he’s thinking at a different level. I trust his judgement and what he thinks the right thing to do for the club is.

“He’s the main factor that the club is in its current position. Of course, there are a lot of people who’ve got it to this point but Tony has been immense.

“With that comes a respect and a trust - I’m very fortunate to work with him.”

The transfer window opens tomorrow and Potter has spoken about the possibility of adding to his squad although he was keen to stress his confidence in the players he already has at his disposal.

“I think all clubs will work behind the scenes to see what the possibilities are to improve the group you have, but it’s never as simple as that,” Potter said.

“It’s not the ideal time to do things because clubs want to hold onto players in the main. My focus is always to try and improve the group that we have.

“I don’t think we are at the maximum now in terms of what we have and what I think we can achieve. We can still improve – so it’s more about getting better.”
