Saturday’s 2-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth means the Seagulls can approach the first match of 2020 against Chelsea on New Year’s Day in good spirits.
But the Head Coach has stressed the importance of not getting too carried away with one result or the effect it can have on the league table.
He said, “I could waste a lot of energy and time worrying about the league table. All I can do is to help the players to win the next match. That has always been my approach. Rather than get on that external rollercoaster of noise, we just focus on the next training session and the next game – and try and improve.”

Good home form is key to that in the second half of the season, according to Potter, which made Saturday’s fourth win of the campaign at the Amex so important.
“Home form is vital because when you go away it’s difficult in the Premier League,” he added.
“Our playing style means we have to be patient to get the best out of players like Leandro Trossard and Aaron Mooy and supporters can get a bit anxious.
“We understand that we have a responsibility to keep the fans involved in the game, but I like to think that they recognise the players always try to give their best.
“The most important relationship at any football club is between the players and the supporters. If you have a positive environment, you can achieve a lot.”

Albion are back in training today ahead of Wednesday’s visit from Frank Lampard’s men.
Potter said: “We have had a bit more time to recover since Saturday – four days almost feels like a holiday! But it’s nice to play that game after getting three points.”
