Propper raring to go back on home soil

Midfielder Davy Propper has underlined the importance of starting the busy festive schedule with victory over Sheffield United at a sold-out Amex on Saturday.

Albion midfielder Davy Propper was on the scoresheet against Wolves last time out at the Amex.

The visit of Chris Wilder’s Blades – who are unbeaten on their travels in the Premier League this season – is the first of four games in 11 days, three of which are at home.

But the 28-year-old says Albion will go into the game full of confidence after making it three games without defeat in Monday’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

“We are in quite good form and are playing well,” said Propper. “Against Crystal Palace we perhaps deserved more than a draw although in the end it was a good point. In the first 75 minutes I thought we would win, but at 1-1 it was difficult for us as they were pushing.

“Now we are looking forward to being back at home, where we have played with a lot of confidence. There are a lot of games coming up over Christmas so it would be nice to start with three points.”

Propper admits that Sheffield United’s impressive start to their first season following promotion has come as a surprise. Wilder, who had a loan spell with Albion 20 years ago, has guided them to seventh place in the table.

“They are doing brilliantly,” he added. “They are seventh - which no one expected - and they have a different style to a lot of other teams.

“They play with a lot of energy and it has been difficult for a lot of teams to play against them. We know what they are good at.

“They like to play very aggressively, and to find a lot of 1 v 1 duels. The way we play is different but they are doing great so it will be a hard game, for sure.”
