The Seagulls face Roy Hodgson’s men at the start of what is always a traditionally busy festive period, and Mooy was keen to acknowledge the significance of the match.

He said, “The Christmas period is important because there are so many matches. There’s no time to look back at the moment, we know how crucial this run of games can be.

“It’s a big one for the fans on Monday and we know it will be a lively derby game under the lights; it will be intense.

“It’s one we know we have to do well in. We have to play our style and make sure we match their levels of desire, and do even more.

“It’ll be a good game to watch on the TV and it’s one that I know all of the lads are looking forward to.”

Potter's Palace press conference

The side’s last league contest was a superb 2-1 win away to Arsenal, where Mooy claimed a stylish assist for Neal Maupay’s winner ten minutes from time.

The midfielder reflected on that landmark win in the capital, as well as the campaign as a whole so far this term.

“That was a big win for us, in the majority of the games we’ve played well, sometimes the results just haven’t been there,” he continued.

“Against Arsenal everything came together and it was a great day for both me and the side.

“I had the red card against Aston Villa, and you just want to be able to play and forget about it. The game at the Emirates made up for all of that.

“The mood and morale are building and getting stronger all the time, and I think we’re only going to get better.”

Mooy also praised the work of head coach Graham Potter and his backroom team during his time at the club to date, emphasising how much he’s loving life in England’s top-flight on the south coast.

“I’m really enjoying working with him and his staff, I like the way we play and I think it suits my style.

“Hopefully I can keep improving and learning even more. I appreciate that the fans are enjoying my work, I just take things game by game and do my very best.

“The Premier League is the division I always wanted to play in since I was a little kid. I used to watch it on TV when I grew up. It was always my dream but I never thought I would get here. I just try and enjoy every moment and do my best every time I’m out on the field.”
