  • Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy on target for the visitors
  • A run of three consecutive home wins comes to an end
  • The Seagulls are next in action away at Liverpool next Saturday

Second-half goals from Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy proved to be the difference on a soggy day on the south coast, where Leicester showed their clinical edge upfront to claim all three points.

Potter could still reflect on a number of positives from an improved second-half performance, but he could have no complaints with the result.

Graham Potter made three changes to the side that lost 3-1 to Manchester United last time out, in a double boost for the Seagulls, as injury doubts Adam Webster and Leandro Trossard were both passed fit for the game and included in the line-up. Meanwhile Aaron came in for Steven Alzate following the latter’s exploits for Colombia.

Neal Maupay latches on to the ball.

Webster took his place at the centre of a three-man Albion defence alongside Shane Duffy and Dan Burn, in a familiar looking 3-4-3 formation.

Much was made of the progress of high-flying Leicester’s progress before the start of the game, and they looked like a team buoyed by their lofty second-place position with some free-flowing football at the start of the game.

The visitors created their first chance inside the opening couple of minutes when Perez met an in-swinging ball into the box with a header that cannoned off the woodwork.

The movement of Harvey Barnes, Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez gave the Albion defence plenty of cause for concern in the first half, and Maty Ryan was forced into a fine one-handed stop to push Vardy’s header over the bar.

Perez then teed up Barnes on the edge of the area, and Maty Ryan got the faintest of touches on the shot to push the ball behind for a corner.

Chances were few and far between for the hosts, with Shane Duffy’s off-target header from Aaron Mooy’s corner the only chance of note.

Albion came out after the break with renewed vigour and started the livelier of the two teams, as Neal Maupay was allowed to get the better of Jonny Evans and saw his angled shot rise over the bar.

Martin Montoya was next to try his luck when he saw his effort deflected over the target, but it was Leicester that drew first blood in the contest courtesy of Perez with 64 minutes on the clock.

The Foxes broke forward with pace through Vardy, as he raced towards the Albion box and unselfishly picked out Perez to break the deadlock.

The Leicester number nine continued to cause havoc down the right flank and almost created a carbon copy of the first goal by teeing up James Maddison on this occasion, but the latter dithered on the ball and allowed Ryan to make a save.

A crazy five-minute spell then effectively put the game out of Albion’s reach which began with referee Mike Dean pointing to the spot for Webster’s challenge on Gray.

Vardy’s resulting penalty was saved by Maty Ryan before Maddison headed in the rebound, but the goal was ruled out for encroachment inside the area. The former England international stepped up again and this time made no mistake in doubling Leicester’s advantage.

The game finished 2-0, and Albion will now turn their attention to a trip to Anfield this time next week.
