Hinshelwood's praise for young shot-stoppers

Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood praised the progress of Albion academy shot-stoppers Carl Rushworth and Roco Rees after their respective loan appearances with the Rebels.

Rushworth was originally due to start the season with Worthing only to be ruled out through injury, which saw Rees initially take his place on a work experience deal. Hinshelwood explained that both keepers have been valuable additions to the squad this term.

He said, “They’re both quite similar, in the sense that they’ve both made some mistakes, but that’s part and parcel of what you get with young players.

“What they have been is mentally strong, put those mistakes to one side and come back stronger from it. It bodes well for them in the long term.

“They’ve both got good left feet and came to us because they want to play out from the back, and highlighted it as an area where they were looking to improve.

“They would’ve improved in terms of dealing with the physicality of men’s football, and dealing with balls coming into the box, but the main thing is they are looking to get better.”

Hinshelwood expressed his gratitude to the club for allowing Rees to come in at short notice to replace Rushworth, and for doing so again when the latter was called up to international duty for England’s under-19s.

“I’m very thankful to Brighton. Carl got injured so they said that Roco could come in and get some minutes for us.

“He had 11 games at the start of the season and was excellent. The agreement was always to have Carl, and that was the plan as soon as he got back.

“Then once Carl got called up on international duty, Brighton said they would help us out and allow him to play.”

The former Seagulls defender then turned his attention to first-team matters at the Albion, and has been encouraged by the style of playing being deployed by Graham Potter.

“I really like to watch them play, as they mix up their style and formation, similar to what we do here. They’re playing some excellent football and will be disappointed not to have claimed more points so far this season.

“The performance against Newcastle in particular, certainly warranted a win. I’m pleased that some of the youngsters that I’ve had flittering dealings with, are also doing well out on loan at clubs in the EFL. The future is certainly looking bright there, and it’s great to see.”
