The Wales international was delighted to build on the promising display against Arsenal a fortnight ago, and highlighted the importance of not allowing the pressure have an impact on their performance.
She said, “For us as a team, it was about going out there, playing our game, and enjoying it again. We put ourselves under a lot of pressure in the last few weeks, but we showed a bit of freedom in the way that we played against Arsenal, and managed to do the same on Sunday.
“Hope [Powell] told us to go out there and enjoy playing our football. If I’m being very critical, our build-up play wasn’t great at times, but it’s a big three points and we’ll keep building on that.”
Green took her tally to five goals this season following her brace on Sunday, with four of those coming from the penalty spot. She spoke about how she is becoming increasingly confident from 12 yards out.
“There was a time when I went away on international duty and missed penalty. I’ve taken a few penalties since then and had longer waits before taking them, so when I put the ball down it was about staying focused, keeping my composure and knowing what corner I’m going to.
“As a forward, you always want to score goals. I scored a couple in the cup, but it dried up in the league, so it was fantastic to score two goals on Sunday.”
The forward also paid tribute to the 4,130 fans inside the Amex and the added lift which their support gave to the squad.
“It’s always good to get a win, but when it’s in an incredible stadium like this and in front of an incredible crowd too, it makes it even more special.
“It was fantastic and when the crowd turns up and brings the noise, it’s phenomenal. Credit to the girls, we turned up and got the three points, which takes a bit of pressure off ourselves.”
