Albion defender Matilde Lundorf cannot wait for this Sunday’s Amex showdown against Birmingham City, in what will be a very proud occasion for the young Dane and her family.

The 20-year-old is eagerly anticipating her Amex bow, and says she has to pinch herself at having the opportunity to play at a Premier League ground.

She said, “I’m so excited, as this is a game that I’ve been looking forward to for the last four weeks. It would be great for me to play at the Amex.

“This game shows how much the club cares about the women’s team. The pitch is great and it’s crazy to think that I’ll have a chance to play at a Premier League stadium!

“I’ve never played anywhere like this before, and I’m sure that I’ll be nervous, but I’m so excited and happy. I’ll enjoy the occasion and do the best that I can.

“My older brother, my dad and two of my friends will all be coming to the game. They are very much looking forward to it, especially my dad and my brother.”

The full-back reflected on Albion’s first five games of the season as a whole, and while the team has not collected the number of points they would have liked, she is confident the side’s fortunes will turn.

“It’s been very tough, and we feel the season has not gone as well as we would’ve hoped for so far, barring the Chelsea and Arsenal games. We really want to win this game, and we’ll give it everything we’ve got to get the result.

“We’re all feeling very good heading into the weekend. It will mean so much for all of us to play at the Amex, and it will give us that extra push to get a result with so many people watching.”

Lundorf was one of four summer signings for Hope Powell’s side, and she admitted that the amount of game time she’s received has been a pleasant surprise.

“I’m really enjoying the environment here and the way things are going for me here. I really like this new life of mine, and I am so happy to have played so many games.

“I wasn’t expecting to play so many games, so that’s been brilliant for me and I want to keep going now.”
