Bowman highlighted the importance of playing with freedom this weekend, and says the team can take a lot of confidence from a competitive performance against one of the league’s best sides a fortnight ago.

She said, “It's all about having the right mind-set; we’ve put ourselves under a lot of pressure in the league, because we want to stay here.

“We want to build on the preparation we had for the Arsenal game and be more relaxed. We know our jobs, but if you start to let the pressure get to you, then you don’t play your usual game.

“We proved that we can play football, and despite being on a bad run, keeping a clean sheet against Arsenal is something which can give us a lot of momentum heading into Sunday.”

The Seagulls skipper spoke in more detail about having the opportunity to play at the Amex again, and is hoping for an even bigger crowd than the 5,000-plus fans that saw Albion lose out to Arsenal back in April.

“Having a chance to play against Arsenal at the stadium was an amazing feeling because it was my first time. It was an unreal moment despite the result, and it was great to see so many fans come out and support us.

“It was a great statement from the club to let us play there, and now they’re allowing us to do the same against Birmingham in what’s a big weekend dedicated to women’s football.

“Hopefully we can get even more fans than last time, and the girls are all so excited by it, but we still realise it’s a big game and what we need to do to get a win on the board.”
