The 21-year-old will be part of Carlos Queiroz's squad that will play friendlies against Peru and Ecuador on the 15th and 19th November in Miami and New Jersey respectively.

He said, “It’s a very proud moment for myself, my family and my friends. It’s an honour to be called up to the senior squad.

“I knew I was in the provisional group, but when I found out I made the final selection I couldn’t believe it. I was in the car with my Dad, he was in the passenger seat and told me the news.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling - I was really happy last week when I found out I was in the provisional squad and I thought I was in with a good chance, I feel as though I’m ready for this opportunity.

“It’s a squad full of world-class players and to share the pitch with them is an honour. To get the chance to train with the likes of James Rodgruiez and Juan Cuadrado is a massive thing for me and I can’t wait to get started.”

Since making his Premier League debut against Newcastle United at the end of September, Alzate has featured prominently in the top-flight for Albion and earned plenty of plaudits.

But the young midfielder was keen to emphasise the importance of staying humble after the latest milestone in his career.

“Things are happening quickly, but I’m just going to keep my head down and continue to work hard,” he added.

“I’ve just got to take it as it comes and stay grounded. I’m very thankful for the opportunity that Graham Potter has given me because that’s opened all these doors and given me all these opportunities.

“All these things are amazing but I try to stay relaxed about everything and don’t get overwhelmed. I just keep doing my work on the pitch.”
