  • Albion open their Premier League Cup campaign with a 3-2 win over Leicester City
  • Ed Turns, Stefan Vukoje and Ben Wilson all on target
  • Tawanda Maswanhise and Terel Pennant score for Leicester
  • The Seagulls host West Bromwich Albion in the same competition next Saturday

Goals from Ed Turns, Stefan Vukoje and Ben Wilson ensured the Seagulls made a winning start in the competition.

The visitors created their first opening of the game when Odell Offiah latched onto a long ball forward from Roco Rees, and his long-distance effort went wide.

Vukoje came even closer to breaking the deadlock when his shot hit the post and Wilson fired just wide with his follow-up strike.

But it was the Foxes that struck first when Maswanhise latched onto a ball played behind the Albion defence and took the ball around Rees to break the deadlock with 18 minutes played.

Vukoje and Wilson both had chances to restore parity to the scoreline, but it was Turns that levelled the scores after he turned on the half volley and scored with a left-footed strike in the 26th minute.

But the game took another twist seven minutes later after Terel Pennant was allowed to turn inside the Albion area and fired his shot beneath Rees to retake the lead for Leicester.

The absorbing end-to-end action in the first half continued, as Albion scored their second equaliser through Vukoje, who fired in a loose ball after Oliver Bosworth parried Wilson’s original shot into his path.

Wilson scored what proved to be a decisive third goal in the 68th minute after he made a driving run forward and slotted his shot into the bottom corner.

The under-18s are back in Premier League Cup action again next Saturday when they host West Bromwich Albion at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.
