Roe was speaking at Tuesday's signing session where she and Ellie Brazil were joined by men’s team players Leandro Trossard and Solly March, and praised the inclusive nature of the club at events such as the one with supporters.

She said, “For me, this was my first [signing session] so it’s quite a big thing. It’s great to see and engage with all the fans, and especially for us as women’s players for it to be inclusive with the men’s team.

“If you go back a few years then this wouldn’t have happened. With the growth of the women’s game it means that we feel included and part of a group. It’s inclusive with the women and men, everyone is treated equally and that doesn’t happen at a lot of clubs.”

The 19-year-old looked ahead to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League match against Birmingham City at the Amex, and reflected on last season’s game against the Blues as a motivating factor to build upon.

“If you look at the men’s team it’s their home, so for us to be able to play there and say ‘this is our home as well' is a step in the right direction for women’s football. It's also a chance for the fans to come and see us grow as a team.

“It’s going to be a big occasion, we’ve come up against them before and last season we beat them, so we want to continue that form."

The defender also reflected on the record-breaking attendances seen across the league, and believes that crowds like the sell-out at Wembley for England’s match with Germany means that women’s football has a bright future.

“For women’s football, everything comes from the fans. If we can get a good crowd at the Amex and support from everybody then we'll be delighted, it will of course be great if we could beat the attendance we got at the Amex against Arsenal last season.

“When you look at the crowds that women’s football has got this year and the England Lionesses selling out Wembley, you can see that we are going in the right direction as a sport.”
