Neal Maupay’s penalty and an injury time own goal turned around a 2-1 scoreline to give the Seagulls a 3-2 victory and three points, and the skipper said the win was well deserved after the frustrations of previous weeks.

He said, “It sums up football and I think we were due one of those types of goals to go our way - we’ve had a few late ones go in against us recently and that made the winner feel even better.

“It was a tight game and it’s never easy to come from behind in this division, but we showed really good character and the penalty really helped us get back into the match.

“We had the momentum and I think we deserved one like that.”

Dunk spoke about the momentum that the victory would now give Albion going forward, and the importance of being able to grind out results.

“It’s another big win for us, but I think we’ve probably played better in most of our other matches so far this season and not got a result,” he continued.

“Winning games when you’re not at your best is a big thing, and then it’s about making sure that we start converting the other results into positive ones when we can.

“We’re going in the right direction and that will give us another boost ahead of another big game at home next weekend.”

Potter: We've earned a bit of luck

Lucas Digne’s own-goal in stoppage time came at the end of a now trademark passing move from the Seagulls, and the captain reflected on the side’s new style this term under head coach Graham Potter.

“We’ve got a distinctive style of play and as defenders we’re encouraged to play it out from the back - it’s a brave way of doing things and it’s something I’ve always enjoyed.

“I know I have options when I’m on the ball, the whole side knows what we’re doing and we work hard every single day in training.

“We work on our structure all the time and you can see we’re beginning to form a good understanding across the team.”
