The full-back was side-lined for a number of months after picking up the injury while on loan at Chievo in Serie A last term, and he spoke about his desire to look to the future now he’s back in full training with the side.

He said, “I am very happy to be back involved with the side, it was a difficult few months, but now my sole focus is on playing and getting back into the team.

“It was a very difficult time, a very big injury and you never expect something serious like this to happen to you, but in this type of injury as in life, you have to have a lot of mental strength and positivity.

“It is the first time that I seriously injured myself - I jumped up for a challenge and then my whole body fell on the grass, my knee turned completely. I have overcome it thanks to my willpower and determination each day.”

Schelotto spoke about how pivotal friends and family have been on his road to recovery, also thanking the staff and his teammates at Albion for helping him make a complete return to full fitness.

“If you are mentally strong, everything is easier,” he continued.

“By the third month of rehabilitation I wanted to play again and had a real desire to do so, but I knew it would take more months of hard work. By the fifth and sixth month I felt ready to return and felt as though I was over the injury.

“My friends and family were fundamental in all these hard months, my family was there day by day, and the messages of support from all football fans gave me the courage to play again.

“My teammates and former clubs also really helped me through my rehabilitation, they were all very important to me and I am grateful to each and every single one.”

Graham Potter’s arrival as head coach ahead of the 2019/20 season represented a new start for a number of players within the squad, including Schelotto.

The defender reflected on the style of football which the new Albion boss has implemented, and discussed the positive effect it has had on the squad as a whole.

“I am motivated and want to play again, the coach knows what I can bring to the side and I can't wait to take advantage of my opportunity.

“The team has had ups and downs so far, but we are only at the beginning, there are many games left to play.

“There has been a positive change and we’ve altered the style of play – everyone’s bought into that and that's very good.

“The head coach knows how to make the most of each characteristic of each player and that’s a really big thing for everyone

“For me, it’s about waiting for my opportunity. The style of play we have this season gives me more freedom to take advantage of space further upfield, and I’m looking forward to showing what I can do.”
