Loan round-up: Clarke edged out by Kayal

It was a busy weekend of action for Albion’s loan players, who were in action across far-flung locations in Europe and South America, as well as closer to home in the EFL and non-league football.

Our round-up begins with a head-to-head encounter between Beram Kayal and Matthew Clarke in the Championship.

EFL

Kayal was on the winning side in the battle of Albion’s loanees in the Championship, as Charlton Athletic beat Derby County 3-0 at The Valley.

Kayal and the Addicks next face Bristol City on Wednesday, while Clarke and Derby will be aiming to bounce back when they host Wigan Athletic on the same night.

In the same division, Ben White was part of the Leeds United team that beat Birmingham City 1-0 and travel to Deepdale to face Preston North End tonight.

Saturday was a day to forget for Jayson Molumby and Millwall, who were 2-0 up away at Brentford, before the hosts scored three times in the final ten minutes to secure a dramatic comeback. The south Londoners are in action again tonight when Cardiff City visit the New Den.

Finally in the Championship, Christian Walton played the full 90 minutes of a 2-2 draw for Blackburn Rovers against Huddersfield Town at Ewood Park. Tony Mowbray’s side travel to Birmingham City tonight.

In League One, Max Sanders claimed an assist in a 1-0 win over Portsmouth. The 20-year-old’s corner in stoppage time was headed in by Terrell Thomas to give the Dons all three points. Sanders and the Dons are in action again tonight away at Burton Albion.

OVERSEAS

Florin Andone scored his first two goals for Galatasaray in a 3-2 win over Sivasspor, and the Romanian will now turn his attention to a Champions League match against Real Madrid tonight.

Alexis Mac Allister played 67 minutes for Boca Juniors in a 1-0 defeat against Racing Club on Saturday, courtesy of Federico Zaracho’s goal.

Back in Europe, Leo Ostigard was a 78th-minute substitute in a 1-0 loss for FC St Pauli at home to SV Darmstadt in Bundesliga 2. Viktor Gyokeres was an unused substitute for St Pauli in the game.

Over in Belgium, Percy Tau played 62 minutes of a 1-0 away win for Club Bruges at Royal Excel Mouscron. Bruges host Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League tonight.

Over in the Netherlands, George Cox played the full 90 minutes for Fortuna Sittard in their 2-1 defeat away at FC Emmen in the Dutch Eredivisie.

In the same division, Anders Dreyer was a last-minute substitute in a 4-2 win for Heerenveen away at AZ Alkmaar.

NON LEAGUE

Carl Rushworth kept a clean sheet on his debut for Worthing in their 3-0 win over Brightlingsea in the Isthmian Premier Division. The Mackerels are back in action at Woodside Road tonight, when they host Carshalton.
