Graham Potter speaks to the media ahead of Aston Villa.

The Seagulls beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at the Amex last time out in the Premier League, and the head coach reflected on that performance and highlighted how he feels that the team can continue to develop as the campaign goes forward.

He said, “It’s always nice to win at home in front of your own supporters, and the pressure that comes when you don't win is normal.

“I wasn’t surprised by our performance though – I felt we were making progress with each game, it’s never a straight line, but overall the daily work of players gave me the feeling that something like that was coming.

“Our challenge is to maintain that level and try to improve; that’s the exciting thing for me, because I think that we can still get better.”

Albion travel to Aston Villa this weekend, with both sides coming into the contest after victories last time out. Potter looked ahead to the challenge that lies in store for his men this weekend.

“They had a good win last time out and have strong home form. I know Villa Park quite well and we played there a couple of times last season during my time at Swansea City,” he continued.

“Dean [Smith] has done a great job since he’s come in there and they’re a strong side. We know it will be a tough game and both sides are coming off the back of good results.

“After an international break you’re not always so sure how things are going to go – we both have to start again. They want to attack and create chances, so we need to be aware of that and offer our own threat too.”

Potter's Villa press conference

The game could see the return of Leandro Trossard, after the head coach revealed the Belgian midfielder has been back in training with the group this week when he met the media on Thursday afternoon.

Potter spoke about the competition for places he has within his squad, and admitted that he has some tough decisions to make ahead of the game on Saturday afternoon.

“We’ve come through a bit of a tough period of injuries because up until the start of the international break in September, we pretty much had a clean bill of health.  We’ve had a few problems since then which can happen, but we’ve come through that and everyone’s pretty much back.

“We need to be careful with Leandro and he probably isn’t ready to start at the weekend, but still he’s with the group again and we’ll make a decision before Saturday.

“It’s nice to have numbers though and I have a good problem of possibly having to leave good players out of my group of 18.”
