Hope Powell’s side head into the game on the back of an impressive start to the season, remaining undefeated and picking up two draws in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
After starting with a goalless draw at Bristol City last weekend, Albion came agonisingly close to defeating last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Chelsea after Aileen Whelan’s 84th minute strike, only for a stoppage time equaliser from Adelina Engman to rescue the Blues a point.
Meanwhile, today’s opponents Charlton come to the match with one point on the board from their first three Women’s Championship matches. After an opening day draw with Lewes, the Addicks have since suffered two 2-0 defeats to Durham and London City Lionesses respectively.
Our last fixture…
Albion: Walsh; Lundorf, Williams, Kerkdijk, Gibbons; Connolly, Bowman, Le Garrec (Simpkins 84); Brazil, Umotong (Green 65), A.Whelan.
Subs not used: Harris (GK), F.Whelan, Barton, Natkiel, Nilden.
As part of Albion's pre-season preparations, Charlton visited Sussex for a friendly at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre back in July.
A third minute goal from Ellie Brazil proved to be the difference between the two sides on the day, although Albion had plenty of chances to extend their lead over the course of the match.
Also in the group…
The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stages. Albion have been placed in Group B alongside fellow WSL clubs Arsenal and Bristol City, as well as Women’s Championship sides Charlton, London Bees and London City Lionesses.
This weekend’s round of fixtures see London Bees travel to Bristol City and London City host Arsenal.
Albion’s next match in the competition is at home to Bristol City on Sunday 20th October at The People’s Pension Stadium.
If you’re thinking about heading to Crayford to watch the match, tickets can be purchased on the gate ahead of the game.
