Gordon Greer watches on against Burnley at the weekend.

Greer says patience will be a key factor for an Albion side still coming to terms with the head coach's new tactics, but is confident that the new style of play will be successful in the long term.

He said, “It’s been pretty good. They were unlucky with the sending off against Southampton in a game they probably would’ve gone on to win, but it’s going to take time for him to implement all of his changes.

“It’s a very different style to last season, but there is a lot of quality in this squad and I think they can do very well in this system.

“They’re pressing high up the park and try to play through the thirds. It bodes well and the longer the head coach has with the players, the more it will become second nature to them. It’s a massive shift from last year, but the players will get to grips with it and it will be a positive change for them.”

Lewis Dunk

The Scotsman looked at the club’s summer acquisitions and feels that Adam Webster could be a very astute signing, before praising the progress of former centre-back partner Lewis Dunk.

“They’re all good players. I really like Webster, and being a centre-back myself, I can appreciate that he is of a good size and is technically a very good player. He’ll also complement the other centre-backs at the club.

“[Neal] Maupay is obviously a very good player and proved it last year. Now he has something to prove again this year in the Premier League. I’ve not seen much of [Leandro] Trossard, but he brings something a bit different that they haven’t had in the last couple of seasons.

“Dunky is a brilliant player and he always has been. He was always made to be a captain at some stage, and he has everything to be a top centre-back - I believe now he’s in the right place to progress his own career as well.”

The former Seagulls captain spoke about matters away from the pitch and how he now combines running his car company with his new role as a scout for the club.

“I’ve had my car company for a few years, but now I’m scouting for the club as well. I’m really enjoying it, and it makes you realise how much goes on behind the scenes at a football club.

“There are so many departments here, and it’s brilliant to see how everything works from a scouting point of view in this new role.

“Overall the club is very good at finding roles for former players that fit their bill in terms of their wealth of previous knowledge and experience. It’s great to be involved back with the Albion again.”
