The Manchester City manager was full of praise for Albion’s bravery at the Etihad Stadium before the international break, and Reid commented further on the players’ courage to believe in the game plan.

He said, “Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches that’s ever lived, so for him to compliment our playing style and some of our players, it’s certainly appreciated.

“It takes a lot of courage to go and play in your own box with the goalkeeper and two centre backs, especially against a Man City team who are very well prepped for pressing teams.

“It takes a lot of organisation on the training field and video sessions to make sure the players have a clear idea of how to pull it off.

“If they haven’t got a clear idea, then you can come unstuck at these places trying to do that. After four games, there has certainly been progress, and we now focus on Burnley and Newcastle.”

Reid joined Potter at Ostersunds and Swansea City before moving to Albion over the summer, and the Scotsman spoke about the relationship he has with the 44-year-old.

“He’s very open if I’m being honest,” he continued. “Graham’s the boss, we all know that, but we’ve worked with him for about six or seven years, so there’s certainly chemistry between us.

“We give him our ideas, but at the end of the day he makes the final call, and we stand by that.

“He’s an astute young manager who is very aware of what he’s doing."
