Albion international update

A number of Albion’s international stars are midway through representing their respective countries over the international break, so let’s take a look at who’s been in action so far.

Aaron Connolly in action for Ireland's under-21s

Shane Duffy helped the Republic of Ireland to a 1-1 draw against Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium on Thursday night, which kept Mick McCarthy’s side top of European Qualifying Group D.

Duffy’s nation remain unbeaten after five matches, but now take a break from qualifying, as they welcome Bulgaria to Dublin tomorrow evening for an international friendly.

Florin Andone came off the bench to score within three minutes against Spain last Thursday, but Romania were unable to find a second goal and went down 2-1 in Group F.

The 26-year-old, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, also played 90 minutes in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Malta, which left his nation in third position after six qualifying matches.

Davy Propper in action for Netherlands

With Netherlands trailing 1-0 against Germany on Friday evening, Davy Propper was introduced in the 58th minute, and Ronald Koeman’s side turned the game around to win 4-2 in Hamburg.

After his second-half impact, Propper will hope for a starting role in tonight’s Group C qualifier against Estonia, before returning to England ahead of Albion’s match against Burnley on Saturday.

Alexis Mac Allister came off the bench to make his senior debut for Argentina in a 0-0 draw with Chile on Friday, replacing Juventus forward Paulo Dybala in the 70th minute. The midfielder was in action for his country again on Wednesday, as he featured for 65 minutes in a 4-0 victory over Mexico.

Aaron Mooy scored for Australia in a 3-0 victory away at Kuwait in a World Cup qualifier, which also saw Mathew Ryan feature for the full 90 minutes.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh, as he featured for 87 minutes in Iran's 2-0 victory over Hong Kong in a 2022 World Cup qualifier.

At under-21 level, Aaron Connolly and Jayson Molumby helped the Republic of Ireland to a 1-0 victory over Armenia on Friday — the former provided the assist for Spurs forward Troy Parrott after a mesmerising run from the halfway line.

The duo capped off a memorable week after featuring again for Ireland's under-21s in a 3-1 victory over Sweden on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Anders Dreyer was also in action for Denmark under-21s in a 2-1 win over Romania in a European Championship qualifier.

Tom McGill made his England under-20 debut in their 1-0 win against Switzerland in an U20 Elite League encounter, while Kacper Lopata made his Poland under-19 debut in a 2-0 friendly victory against Armenia last Friday.

Leo Ostigard played 90 minutes for Norway’s under-21s in their 2-1 European qualifying victory over Cyprus, and followed it up with another 77 minutes in a 3-0 friendly victory over Hungary on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Haydon Roberts helped England’s under-18s to a 1-1 draw against Brazil in their four nations campaign, before featuring in the Young Lions' 2-0 win over the Korea Republic on Tuesday.

Leo Ostigard played 90 minutes for Norway’s under-21s in their 2-1 victory over Cyprus, while Haydon Roberts helped England’s under-18s to a 1-1 draw against Brazil in their four nations campaign.

Finally, under-18 midfielder Marc Leonard captained Scotland’s under-19s in two matches against Japan in Spain — drawing the first match 1-1 and losing 3-2 in the second.
