It was a dream debut for goalkeeper Megan Walsh, who kept a clean sheet on her first competitive appearance for the club, and made some crucial saves along the way to a well-earned point against Bristol City.

The shot-stopper, who joined from Yeovil Town in the summer, reflected on the match, the impact of the other new signings that came into the team, and playing in front of a crowd of more than 3,000 people in Bristol.

She said, “It was a tough game and either side could have won it, but we were happy with the point after a difficult match away from home. It [The big crowd] did help me improve my game, and as the away team we were the villains.

“You heard that with the crowd's reaction when we were taking our penalty, but it’s something that is needed for the women’s game.

“Matilde [Lundorf] played really well and did everything we asked of her. When Danique [Kerkdijk] came in we were under the cosh and she pulled out a good performance.”

Walsh also praised her team-mates for creating a welcoming atmosphere over the course of pre-season and assessed the challenge to play for a club in the biggest league.

“Pre-season has been tough, but the girls have been so welcoming. I wanted first-team football and I wanted to stay at a high level. Hope [Powell] being here as well really attracted me, and I know she can develop me as a player.

“It is difficult to adjust to this league, but we have to be professional and we need to do everything that is expected of us to keep going.”

The 24-year-old then looked ahead to next week’s encounter with Chelsea at The People’s Pension Stadium and expects a tough battle with the 2017/18 champions.

“Personally, I’ll be working on saving every shot I could possibly face. We know Chelsea are a good team and they have good movement in and around the pitch. But our focus will be on defending and seeing how we can break them down.

“As a club we know we are able to compete in this league and we want to see how high we can finish in the table.”
