Powell’s side were beaten 1-0 by City at The People’s Pension Stadium on the opening day of last season, and the Albion manager took encouragement from the positives of a point gained and a defensive shut-out.
She said, “We’re pleased that we didn’t lose the game because this time last year we had no points on the board and conceded, whereas this time we got a point on the board and didn’t concede.
“At times we tried to play, and they did too, which made it a very competitive and entertaining game for the fans. I am disappointed we didn’t win, but happy that we didn’t lose.
“The crowd were right behind Bristol and there were a few Brighton fans as well, so there was a great atmosphere and a brilliant occasion for both teams. I think they will all go back home happy.”
The Seagulls boss named three debutants in the line-up to face City and Powell praised the quality they showed on the ball.
“We brought them in for a reason and recognise the character which Matilde [Lundorf], Megan [Walsh], Lea [Le Garrec], and Danique [Kerkdijk] have got.
“They’re all very good signings that have fitted in very well and the girls have welcomed them into the group.
“Matilde and Lea are both new to this league and this will help them going forward. I am very pleased for them all.”
