The young Swede has featured three times for the German second division side so far and spoke about how the move has come at the right time in his career.

He said, “I’ve really enjoyed my time over here so far. It took a little while to get used to my new surroundings, but the players and staff have been really good to me.

“I have that feeling of excitement at the moment, everything is new and it’s a good challenge for me.

“My aim is to get better, and hopefully I will play more often, because that’s the main reason I came here, to play games of football.

“I need some more game time to show what I can do on the pitch. I’ll continue to do my best in training and hopefully my chance will come, because I’m more than ready.”

Gyokeres has settled in well to his surroundings off the pitch and spoke about the incredible noise which comes at all St Pauli matches.

“The games are very intense, there’s a lot of energy and it’s constantly back and forward. The atmosphere is very good as well, because the fans are very loud and make themselves known.

“In terms of moving to Germany, I’ve settled in well, I have my own apartment and Hamburg is a really nice city."

One player that has joined the forward over in Germany is Leo Ostigard, and Gyokeres is backing the Norwegian to break into the side after some recent injury problems.

“I’m not sharing accommodation with Leo [Ostigard], but we live very close and it’s nice to have somebody I know over here.

“Leo had some trouble with an injury, but he’s training now and hopefully he’ll get a chance to play very soon.”
