Loan round-up: Shutout success for White and Walton

Away from the Amex, it was a busy weekend of action for Albion’s loanees, with games taking place across the EFL, Europe, and as far as South America.

The Sky Bet Championship saw four Albion players in action, starting on Friday evening at the John Smith’s Stadium, as Anthony Knockaert helped Fulham to a 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Ben White delivered another impressive display for table-topping Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory at Wigan Athletic, thanks to Patrick Bamford’s brace.

Christian Walton in action at Ewood Park

There was a first Blackburn Rovers clean sheet for Christian Walton — the Lancashire outfit claimed a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough after Danny Graham fired home from the penalty spot in the 25th minute.

Derby County continued their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 2-2 draw at Stoke City — Matt Clarke made his third league start for the Rams, as Martyn Waghorn netted twice at the bet365 Stadium.

Despite helping Millwall to a Carabao Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion in midweek, Jayson Molumby’s wait for a league appearance at The Den continued, but the Lions sealed a 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday.

Beram Kayal is yet to make his first appearance for Charlton Athletic, who drew 2-2 with Barnsley over the weekend, while Jan Mlakar was uninvolved at Ashton Gate in Queens Park Rangers’s 2-0 defeat to Bristol City.

Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has signed a new deal with the club.

In Sky Bet League One, Robert Sanchez made a string of fine saves to keep his first clean sheet for Rochdale, as they continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury Town.

Club Brugge and Percy Tau were held to a 0-0 draw by Eupen in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League — the South African played the full 90 minutes for the league leaders.

Viktor Gyokeres made his third league appearance off the bench for FC St Pauli on Saturday, but the German side were denied victory after Stuttgart scored twice in the second half to win 2-1. Leo Ostigard is yet to feature for the Bundesliga 2 club.

Alexis Mac Allister

Over in Argentina, Alexis Mac Allister replaced former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez — who got his name on the scoresheet — in the 68th minute, as Boca Juniors won 2-0 against Aldosivi.

In the same league, Billy Arce made his first start for Barcelona Sporting Club, but the Ecuadorian’s loan side were beaten 2-0 by LDU Quito.

Back in England, Kacper Lopata — on loan at Whitehawk — helped the Bostik South East Division outfit to a 3-2 victory over VCD Athletic, and opened the scoring for the Hawks on his debut.
