A second-half strike from Leandro Trossard cancelled out Javier Hernandez’s opener on the south coast in a 1-1 draw, and the defender spoke about his role in a three-man defence and the flexibility it allows him.

He said, “I like to get forward and help out the side in attack whenever I can and assist the likes of Solly [March] on the left.

“It seems to be working well at the moment and hopefully that continues.

“We have freedom to step out of defence, the head coach has given us the structure to go and do that and join in the play to give ourselves an extra man going forward.

“At the moment our system is working well, we have a big home game next weekend and that’s a massive match where we’ll be looking to get three points.”

Leandro Trossard celebrates his goal.

Trossard actually had the ball in the net during the first half against the Hammers before VAR ruled the volley out for offside against Burn, and the centre half felt as though the Seagulls did more than enough to win the contest.

“I feel as though we restricted the number of chances they had and did more than enough to win the game,” he continued.

“It’s another positive performance, but we feel like we should have won.

“Of course, it’s frustrating but we’re still unbeaten and we have a lot to take into next weekend as well.”
