Andone: We’ll both take confidence

As far as immediate impacts off the bench go, Florin Andone’s against Watford ranks right up there, after the forward scored with his first touch at Vicarage Road in our 3-0 victory.

Andone and debutant Neal Maupay both found the back of the net after coming on in the 64th minute, and the Romanian believes the afternoon’s work will breed confidence for both himself and his new team-mate.

He said, “Both Neal and I scored after coming on and of course that’s great for our confidence.

“For me personally that will be massive for my confidence, last year when I came to England it was tough at the start and I didn’t play until November for the club.

“To start like that in the first minute of my season, in a great win, is good for me. For Neal especially, it’s superb because those were his first minutes in the Premier League.”

Andone: Let's enjoy it!

The impressive victory put us third in the Premier League table after the opening day of fixtures, but Andone highlighted the need for the team to continue reaching high standards throughout the season.

“To win by that scoreline away from home in the first game is quite unexpected, but I always trust and believe in the team.

“Now we have to enjoy the moment, we were great in every minute, we did very well and now we have to maintain those levels.

“We can improve but we know we have to keep that up for the rest of the season.”

Head coach Graham Potter kept faith in a 3-4-3 formation after experimenting with the shape during pre-season, and Andone spoke about Potter’s influence.

“Everything has been different and we’ve tried many different systems.

“We were quite defensive last year, but we showed good courage today and the head coach is very happy. He also said we have to get better too.

“We have a lot of players and everyone wants to play in the side. That can only be a good thing because it will push everyone on throughout the year to keep getting even better.”
