Graham Potter speaks to the media ahead of today's game at Vicarage Road

We travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford this afternoon in what will be the head coach’s first competitive game in charge of the club, and the boss says he’s extremely satisfied with the players at his disposal.

He said, “There’s a togetherness here; whenever you add a new player the dynamic changes, but that’s normal.

“There’s a foundation that we’ve worked with and tried to enhance; any group at the start of the season has a fresh start and the boys have been fantastic in how they’ve responded.

“I’m confident that the players we have will give us good options, we have a nice variety in the squad and cover in all positions.”

Javi Gracia’s men enjoyed an eye-catching season last year, reaching the Emirates FA Cup final before a defeat to Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Potter spoke about this afternoon’s opposition and their strengths, but also stressed his desire to keep focused on ourselves at the same time.

“They’ve grown into the Premier League since they’ve been in the division and improved with each year that’s gone by,” he continued.

“To get to the final of the cup last season was a good achievement for them and they have a clear way of playing.

“I’m sure they do things well there, but ultimately we have to be ourselves and try to work out what we want from our game.”

Potter's Watford press conference

The boss also reflected on two of his forwards ahead of the game in Hertfordshire today, and singled out last year’s top goalscorer in particular.

“Glenn’s an experienced and top striker, so you’d think Neal [Maupay] and everyone as a whole can learn from him in terms of how he conducts and maintains himself both on and off the pitch.

“What you also want is an environment where everybody learns off one another, regardless of age or experience.

“You want the coach to learn off the players and the players to inspire one another, but in terms of Glenn being a role model, then of course he’s fantastic.”
